NiViM is working for the last 26 years towards the inculcation of a culture of nature conservation with the popularization of Science & Scientific attitude amongst the students, youths, women, farmers and forest dwellers through voluntary actions.

Science and Environment Education through Demonstration (SEED) of Basic Education of Environment & Science (BEES):
​
SEED of BEES is our voluntary project adopted and operated by NiViM volunteers for inculcating a culture of nature conservation with the popularization of basic science amongst students. The voluntary action of devoted, dedicated and determined activist to completion of the committed goal is the strength of NiViM.

NiViM formed groups of students under the name of Nature Science Club (NSC), These groups are regularly interacting at Nisarg Vidnyan's School of Concepts (SoC) at Besa. Experiments are based on the syllabus of secondary school and higher-secondary school curriculum. These activities are organized in association with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). Dr Vivek Wagh, Director, Centre for Excellence Education(CSE) conducted test examination to understand the knowledge grabbed by participated students.



Prof.Dr.Vijay Ghugey gave a demonstration to engineering college students to understand basic concepts of science & nature for sustainable development. Mr Wasudeo Mohadikar demonstrated experiments of daytime astronomy and another school-based low/no-cost experiments to students.

Skywatching activities were organized at NETRAVAN (Nature Education, Trainings, Research in Agri-forestry Adventures for Voluntary Actions Network) for rural and urban students and amateurs in association with IAPT. Dr Vivek Wagh, Arun Dolke, Dr Abhik Ghosh, and Rahul Mesham showed stars, planets, and galaxies using a telescope.

Saturday sky watch activity at NETRAVAN in association with IAPT and Kutuhal organized on second and fourth Saturday night. The first activity was organized on 14th Dec 2015. A total of 58 individuals participated in this activity. Mr Arun Dolke, Mr Vivek Wagh, Dr Abheek Ghosh, Dr Vijay Ghugey, Wasudeo Maohadikar and students from PG Dept of Physics, Engineering college, Institute of science took part in skywatching, training and telescope handling.

Conservation of Soil, Water, and Moisture (CSWM):
​
Students from the engineering colleges as a member of NiViM took part in action-oriented activities of plantation and water conservation. They constructed a Loose Bolder Structure (LBS) in the rural area through Soil Moisture Conservation (SMC).
​

A total of 150 students from selected engineering colleges participated in this activity. Mr Raj Madankar, Abhinav Ghugey, Vrishab Gore, Pranay Tijare, Abhay Pathak took initiative to implement these activities in the rural area of Umred taluk of Nagpur district.

NiViM organized awareness and action programme Save River To Get Water Forever for the conservation of soil and water of Nag river by the participation of students, teachers, nature lovers and NMC workers. Rally inaugurated by Prof. Anil Sole, MLC and former Mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation(NMC), Nagpur, Prof.Vijay Ghugey, President, NiViM, Prof. Vinita Bower, Principal, New Apostolic High-schooler & Jr. college. 500 students and 80 teachers, workers participated in the rally. Oath for participation to protect the Nag river was taken in the presence of MLC, Mayor, and Asst. Commissioner at M.P. DRO Smriti Lokanchi Shala & Jr. college, Siraspeth, Nagpur.

Forest Conservation by Community Participation (FCCP):
​
Community participation by Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) in territorial forest division and Village Eco-Development Committees (VEDC) formed in and around Tiger Reserve is the best practice of the forest department. Forest department excellent work of forest conservation and wildlife protection through the participation of the community.

NiVIM prepared Micro Plans for 25 villages in Nagpur and Wardha forest division. We also evaluated the work done by the forest department under the scheme of JFMC in 6 villages of Nagpur & 23 villages of the Bhandara forest division. Similarly, work of VEDC in 18 villages in and around Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) and Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR) of Vidarbha.

Awareness and action programmes implemented by Forest department by the provision of LPG cylinders for cooking instead of dry firewood collected from the forest and cattle with stall feeding facility provided to built their capacity of livelihood security instead of free grazing of cattle in the forest which, otherwise, causing destruction of biodiversity of wild flora and habitat of fauna.

Installation of the solar lighting system to get light in the villages does not have electrification and solar cooker supplied to prepare food, particularly in the Melghat region. Most of the tribal community initially did not accept these changes in their lifestyle. They denied use of such modern technology due to some superstition.

Natural & Organic Farming for Sustainable Agriculture Practices (NOFSAP):

NiViM formed Farmers Club (FC) in selected 29 villages of Umred, Kuhi and Bhivapur taluk of Nagpur district. Training based on Natural & Organic Farming (NOF) organized in 5 tribal villages of Umred taluka. These clubs of farmers formed and operated under the scheme of the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD). 660 farmers from 29 villages of Umred and Bhivapur blocks of Nagpur district formed part of this club.

NiViM promoted the Government scheme of intensive irrigation under the title of Vidarbha Intensive Irrigation Development Plan (VIIDP) of digging and widening of the natural stream (i.e. nullah) flowing in the vicinity of NETRAVAN.

Solar fencing to farms is an action to avoid Man-Animal Conflict:
​
To avoid man-animal conflict due to crop raiding by herbivores in the farm close to the forest boundary. Solar fencing programme implemented by the participation of people. Around 800 acres of farmland from 10 villages very close to the forest is covered by solar fencing. We covered minimum of 50 acres and a maximum of 350 acres of farmland in one group. Due to this activity, as of now, more than 1500 acre of land comes under cultivation. It was barren due to crop raiding by herbivores in the farms close to the forest boundary. This programme is under since 2011.

In Wildlife Week 2015, NiViM organized a campaign and rally of students in association with the wildlife wing of the forest department. The objective was to select a wildlife ambassador for working as a nature conservator organized for students of the rural and urban area. 20 students selected from around 400 students appeared for the examination trained during Nature camp held at Pench Tiger Reserve in association with NGO and wildlife wing.

We are working in tribal and forest village where electricity hasn't reached yet. We undertook the survey and appealed to the Rotary club for the provision of the solar light system to these villagers. This activity enlightened the life of the tribal after 70 to 75 years of life.

Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC):
​
BMCs formed by a team of NiViM in 8 villages of Northern Umred and Butibori range of Nagpur forest division as per Biodiversity Conservation Law-2006. These BMCs formed as per guidelines of Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board (MSBB), Nagpur. These villages are hotspots of biodiversity, however, villagers are not aware of these. To understand and note down the list of all-natural resources available in the vicinity of the village, a training programme was organized in the presence of Mr Prakash Mahajan, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Nagpur and Dr Dilip Gujar, IFS, Bioconsultant, MSBB. Prof Vijay Ghugey trained them to read the forest and species available in agriculture.

Tobacco-free School Campaign through ATAAC Club:

NiViM organized a campaign for the Tobacco-Free Nagpur district in association with Salam Mumbai Foundation (SMF) and Healis Sekhsariya Institute for Public Health, Mumbai. NiViM formed the Anti-Tobacco Awareness and Action Campaign (ATAAC) club in the schools of the urban and rural area of Nagpur district. Rallies, training, brainstorming sessions and dental check-up camps were organized in the schools.

Swechchha Sankalp Tambakhoo Mukti Kendra started at Nisarg Vidnyan Kendra, Besa for counselling the students and the youth to quit tobacco for better health.

Campaign for the Eco-Friendly festival and idol immersion:

For the last 17 years, NiViM is working to inculcate a culture of eco-friendly Ganesh festival and immersion of idol at home or in an artificial tank to avoid water, air and soil pollution. For the last three years, NiViM prepared a team of potter community members to prepare herbal colour and eco-friendly idol.
​
NiViM organized training in association with Vidarbha Heritage Society and Chitnis Trust for the preparation of herbal colours. Around 5000 idols of shadu soil made by the potter community kept for sale in the various market at Nagpur. Land for these markets and other permissions were given NMC. We had roped in the expertise of Mr Sharad Ingle, a well-known clay artist to train the members on making idols from shadu clay.
